Tom approaches tax matters with precision and curiosity, delivering advice that is technically rigorous, commercially minded and practical to implement.
His work spans front end tax advisory and structuring, business restructures and detailed tax advice, with particular experience across federal and state taxes, small business CGT concessions and tax residency issues. Tom is regularly involved in ATO private ruling applications and assists clients in managing reviews and disputes with the ATO and State Revenue Office.
Clients value Tom’s responsive and efficient approach, as well as his ability to navigate complex legislation and revenue authority processes with clarity and focus. He applies strong analytical thinking and sound judgment to each matter, ensuring advice is not only technically correct but aligned with clients’ broader objectives.
Prior to joining Velocity Legal, Tom was a tax advisor at a national accounting and advisory firm. He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tasmania and is currently completing a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne.
Experience
- Tax advice in relation to a wide range of matters concerning capital gains tax (CGT), small business CGT concessions, payroll tax, superannuation, and cross-border tax issues.
- Advising on tax residency matters, including drafting private binding rulings and reasonably arguable position papers.
- Advising on the tax implications of employee incentive programs for Australian and international private and public companies.
