These promotions recognise the important contribution Joel and Tyson have each made to the firm, their respective practice areas and the clients they support.

Joel Garrett promoted to Special Counsel

Joel is a senior member of Velocity Legal’s Property team and advises on a broad range of property and commercial leasing matters.

His experience includes retail, commercial and telecommunications leasing, acquisitions and sales of commercial and development land, property-related state tax matters, stamp duty exemption applications and property issues arising in deceased estate matters.

Joel’s promotion to Special Counsel recognises the depth of his expertise, his leadership within the Property team and the trust he has earned from clients and colleagues alike.

He is a true specialist in his field. Across complex property matters, Joel brings technical mastery, calm judgement and a highly practical approach. His promotion reflects not only the quality of his legal work, but also the leadership qualities that make him an important part of Velocity Legal’s continued growth.

Tyson Bateman promoted to Senior Associate

Tyson is a member of Velocity Legal’s Tax team and advises business owners, investors and professional advisers on complex tax matters.

His work includes structuring and restructuring advice, federal and state tax matters, taxation reviews and disputes, Small Business CGT Concessions, payroll tax, land tax, transfer duty and matters involving the ATO and State Revenue Office.

Tyson’s promotion to Senior Associate recognises his continued growth and contribution to the Tax team - bringing sharp technical ability, discipline and practical judgement to complex tax issues.

Beyond his client work, Tyson also makes a valuable contribution to the broader tax community and to the firm through technical articles, commentary and content. He has also played an active role in supporting Velocity Legal’s development in legal technology, helping the firm continue to improve how it delivers technical, efficient and commercially useful advice.
