Lawyers Weekly has named Velocity Legal Managing Director and Co-founder Andrew Henshaw a finalist for Managing Partner of the Year at the Australian Law Awards 2026.

The recognition speaks to Andrew’s role in leading Velocity Legal as both a business and a professional services firm. Since co-founding the firm, Andrew has helped shape its direction, guide its growth and support the team behind its work.

As Managing Director, Andrew combines firm leadership with a specialist tax practice. His work across complex tax disputes, business restructures, succession planning and major transactions gives him a close understanding of the pressures that clients and legal teams face when matters carry commercial, financial and personal significance.

Leading the firm with focus and discipline

Andrew plays a central role in setting Velocity Legal’s strategic direction. He helps guide the firm’s growth across its practice areas and offices, with a focus on sustainable development, strong systems and a consistent client experience.

That work requires more than legal expertise. It requires clear priorities, commercial judgement and the ability to support people as the firm grows.

Andrew brings a business-owner lens to that role. He understands the decisions, risks and operational pressures that come with building a firm, and he uses that perspective to guide how Velocity Legal develops its team, its services and its client experience.

Supporting the team behind the work

Managing a law firm means leading the people who deliver the work, not only the business that sits around it.

Andrew supports lawyers across the firm to build technical skill, take ownership of matters and approach complex work with practical judgement. He also helps maintain the standards that underpin Velocity Legal’s work: accountability, commercial thinking and careful execution.

His own practice reflects those standards. Andrew advises on complex tax disputes, restructures, succession planning, major transactions, ATO matters and State Revenue Office matters. That technical background informs the way he leads the firm and supports the team through demanding work.

Recognition for firm leadership

We congratulate Andrew on this finalist recognition in the Australian Law Awards 2026.

The shortlisting reflects Andrew’s contribution as Managing Director, his role in building Velocity Legal and his continued focus on supporting the people, systems and standards that shape the firm’s work.

The Australian Law Awards will announce the winners on Thursday, 30 July 2026.
